Welcome to 2014. I hope you had a restful holiday and the opportunity to recharge your batteries for a new and exciting year. I was able to retreat from the world for a while and make some big plans for 2014. Today, I’m excited to share my plans with you.
If you’re new here, this is My Quarterly Progress Report. At the end of each quarter I summarize what I did, what I learned, and what I’m working on now.
I created my blog a few years ago after a disappointing performance review at work. I decided it was time for me to live intentionally and take responsibility for my life. That day I made The Personal Growth Choice.
Since making that choice, my life has been immeasurably different. I challenge myself, take risks, and most importantly, I learn and grow every day. The most rewarding part of the growth process is giving back and teaching others what I have learned on my journey.
My Quarterly Progress Report is a tool I use to track my progress and share with you what is and isn’t working on my journey. It’s my hope you’ll take something away from this report that inspires you to live your life with more passion and purpose.
Last year was a year for building. I laid the foundation for many exciting opportunities that lie ahead. On the public speaking front – I completed (4) Toastmasters speeches. I have to complete just (4) more to achieve the Competent Communicator Award (10 total speeches). I’ve learned so much about public speaking and about myself through the program. I’ve also met many awesome people in my community. It’s been a great learning experience.
Here are the speeches I gave last year:
I also had the opportunity to interview (3) “Remarkable Leaders” on my blog last year – Disney’s Lee Cockerell, America’s Top CEO Coach Mike Myatt, and Public Speaking World Champion Lance Miller. Here are the interviews:
I really enjoy doing these interviews. I hope you like reading them.
I achieved my goal of reading 20 books last year. I read 23! Here are the books I read and listened to last quarter:
I spend at least three hours every week reading or listening to personal development material. My daily commute is my best time for learning. If I’m driving one hour a day (or 260 hours a year) I might as well learn something during that time. One tool that’s helped me out tremendously is Audible. Out of the 23 books I read last year, I “listened” to 12 of them. Audible doubled my learning rate. If you’d like to try out their service you can download a free audio book using my affiliate link.
I also launched a coaching program last year to help others identify their unique talents and to live with more passion and purpose. This year, I’m taking the coaching experience UP A NOTCH. In March, I’m flying to Gallup’s Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska to become certified as a Gallup Strengths Coach. Gallup is a company known for its forward-thinking research, analytics, and advice to help leaders solve their most pressing problems. They also created the StrengthsFinder assessment, a popular tool to help people uncover their talents. In 2013, StrengthsFinder 2.0 (the book) was the #1 best-seller on Amazon. As a Gallup Strengths Coach, I’ll be trained to help you understand your strengths and learn how to use them to achieve your goals and become a better leader.
Strengths awareness and goal-setting is a powerful combination. When you know your strengths, you can find the most direct (and natural) route to achieve your goals.
Strengths awareness and leadership is also a powerful combination. When you know your strengths and you know your team’s strengths, you can build a powerful organization.
Here are a few stats from Gallup:
- People who use their strengths everyday are 6x more likely to be engaged on the job.
- Teams that focus on strengths everyday have 12.5% greater productivity.
- Teams that receive strengths feedback have 8.9% greater profitability.
Receiving this certification is a big step for my coaching program and my leadership ability. It will be a game-changer for how I can help you achieve your goals and live with incredible passion and purpose. I can’t wait to partner with Gallup on this endeavor.
Last but not least – the Life Planning Kit. I spent many early morning hours in 2013 building this unique product that will help you set an exciting new direction for your life. When I reflect on my journey over the past three years, one of my best decisions I made was creating my Life-Plan. After I wrote down all my goals, I gained a sense of clarity that I never had before. I had a better understanding of what I should strive for. I knew what would make me happiest. Ultimately, I was able to summarize in just a few sentences, the purpose of my life. Now, I have a deep understanding of who I am, what I want, and what I stand for. Creating my Life Plan changed my life forever.
That’s why I created the Life Planning Kit – to help you do the same. One of my biggest fears has always been that I will go through life and never quite “figure out” my unique purpose or what special value I bring to the world. This fear got me out of bed early in the morning, to build this special product for you – so that you can “figure it out.” It’s ironic because, as I was creating it, I figured out my unique purpose. If you buy the Life Planning Kit, you will too. It will take you through a powerful self-discovery process, unmatched by any other program. I guarantee you. I can’t wait to share it with you.
The official launch date is Friday, January 17th. I will release it to my email subscribers a few days prior to give them early access and to say “thanks” for being part of my journey.
See you then!
